For the following anecdote, I am much indebted to Michael James:
The person who is perpetually named as "Ken" Barrass was in fact called Bob by everyone who knew him, including his family with whom [Michael James] keeps in touch. He was in fact a much decorated Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Flying Corps in the war, but when he joined the CCF, because Ken Batty (head of the CCF at the time) only ranked as Major, Bob was given the rank of Captain. However when Ken Batty resigned from the CCF after his coronary, Bob was promoted to Major.
