Southfield House Plans

Here are some draft plans of Southfield House, both before and after the annexation of Crossways next door in 1950. These plans are certainly not to scale; the purpose is more to show the layout of the place and how the house developed over the years.

I have intentionally omitted the basement, which housed the heating boiler. I remember in the 1950's that the coal for it was delivered in sacks which were emptied down the shute just in front of the kitchen window on the east side. I don't know quite what the arrangements were before the annexation of Crossways in 1950. The stairs to the basement ran below those shown next to the Kitchen and Prefects' Room.

The plans of the pre-1950 layout are more conjecture on my part, based on my recollections of the post-1950 layout. I know that the dormitories in particular had different names. If you are able to add any information or to correct what is shown, please e-mail me.

I very much regret that I have mislaid the name of the person who kindly sent me this sketch. My apologies - please contact me again.
