The Lancashire Collection: 1943-4.

1 - In the Beginning: This photo, dated September 1943, was originally thought to be the earliest known photo of the Inmates of Southfield House. However, it turns out that none of the boys shown had any connection with Southfield House as they were resident at South Walks House, which probably explains the presence of Mr Hill, who was Housemaster at South Walks at that time, and his wife. Consequently I have duplicated this photo in the South Walks House section.
Back row, left to right: Mr RW Hill (Headmaster & Housemaster at South Walks), Mrs Hill, Mrs Lancashire, Mr Lancashire;
Front row: Michael Parsons, Roger Rowland and brother Bob Rowland.

Middle row: Stone, S Robinson, R Robinson, Revans, Jacob, Driscoll;
Front row: Willis, Browne, Galloway, Jeram, Brodie.

6 - In front of Mr Lancashire's study, July 1944. Left to right: Jeram, Revans, Galloway, Browne, Brodie.

7 - By the front door, November 1944. Left to right: S Robinson, Feltham, Collins, Cleary, Reid, Driscoll.

8 - November 1944. By consulting records, those labelled 6, 7 & 8 must be Barnes, Tudor & B Webb, but which is which? If you know, please - e-mail me.

Ian Carr (centre) remembers this photo:"This picture was taken just after prefect-inspection of our faces, necks, hands, shoes and general tidiness. 'Inky' Collins was house head-boy then, 'Pompey' Feltham and 'Boosey' Cleary were [sub-?]prefects. The impassive expression on my face hides annoyance at Boosey's hairy hands being clamped on my shoulders!"
